The Bircham Centre Walled Garden – a very special place

We are so lucky to have our lovely walled garden which provides a wonderfully tranquil space in the middle of Reepham.  It’s open almost every day for residents and visitors to look around and spend quality time.

The garden is usually open access but can be hired for parties and events:  the cost is £50 per four-hour session.  These private hire sessions provide us with the funds to keep the space so lovely for the rest of the year.

Keeping our garden in tip-top condition involves a lot of hard work and huge thanks must go to Eve’s Hill Veg Co who run our weekly volunteer sessions – and to the volunteers themselves.  We’re thrilled that the garden is a welcoming place for you and various wildlife including our bats and swifts.  Eve’s Hill Veg Co are helping us develop this further with a pollinator bed to attract bees, hover flies and other bugs.

We’re grateful to the Norfolk Community Foundation for the Greening Our Community Fund grant we’ve received, which we’ll use to purchase items for our spring garden.  We’d like to thank Reepham Town Council too for sharing some of their Clean & Bloom grant with us, to allow us to buy bulbs for the front of our building.

The latest addition to the walled garden area will be compost bays which are being created by Reepham Scouts from pallets provided by King & Co, enabling us to recycle our garden waste.

We’re also taking delivery of a lovely Amelanchiers tree from Edgefield Nursery, given to us in memory of Brenda Palmer.  This will eventually replace the holly tree we removed last year from the garden outside the Front Room.  However, there’s still some drainage work to be done there so the tree in its pot is being placed between the benches outside the charity shop for the time being.
